Mission
Where children and families heal from life’s deepest hurts.
Vision
Childhood restored. We tirelessly pursue, find and celebrate healing for young children in our community who have faced trauma, enabling children to lead happy, healthy, hopeful lives.
The Children’s Place is Kansas City’s specialized trauma treatment center serving the mental health needs of young children since 1978. Through mental health therapy and the power of early intervention, the youngest in our community are able to heal from traumatic events and thrive.
The Children’s Place is a national leader in the highly-specialized field of young children’s mental health and works specifically with children ages eight and younger. The agency provides developmental assessments to any child who is in the care of the Children’s Division, and mental health services are open to any child age eight or younger, regardless of ability to pay.
The Children’s Place has recently launched a mobile mental health therapy unit, The Children’s Place on Wheels, that will travel to local early education centers to provide mental health services throughout Jackson County. The retrofitted bus has been turned into a mental health playroom; overcoming barriers like transportation, busy family schedules and more to bring therapeutic services directly to children.
