April
Wear Blue Day is a designated day for raising awareness about child abuse prevention.
It takes place in April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Everyone in the community is encouraged to wear blue as a symbol of their commitment to preventing child abuse and supporting children and families in need of help.
Wear Blue Day spreads awareness of the issues surrounding child abuse, offer resources for those affected, and promote community involvement in protecting children. The color blue represents child abuse prevention efforts, as it is a part of the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign, which uses a blue pinwheel as the symbol for the fight against child abuse.
The Collective Action For Children creates a blue T-shirt every year with a message that focuses on child safety and well-being in our community.
The first Friday of April is the day we encourage everyone in our community to wear blue to recognize the importance of community involvement to bring about awareness and education surrounding issues to ensure the well-being of children.
Wear Blue Day allows the Collective Action For Children to:
- Educate others about the signs of child abuse and how to report it.
- Support organizations working to prevent abuse and provide services to affected families.
- Show solidarity with children who may be suffering from abuse and offer a message of hope.
Statistics and Impact:
- According to the National Children’s Alliance, in the U.S., more than 700,000 children are victims of abuse or neglect every year.
- Child abuse can have long-term consequences, affecting a child’s physical, emotional, and mental health, as well as their future development and success in life.
